Community Support Worker

The Community Support Worker will.
  • Work alongside whanau to assist with the development of skills, knowledge and awareness by providing information.
  • Liaise and assist whanau to obtain support for identified needs.
  • Utilize the Whanau Poutama framework to navigate whanau in goal setting and planning to reach those goals.
  • Assist and advocate for whanau to access other services in health, education, social and economic arena.
  • Use internally recognized frameworks to assess, plan and implement Care Plans with clients / whanau.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients and other professionals internally and externally using a problem-solving approach.
  • Actively contribute towards the planning and implementation of Health Promotion in conjunction with other staff, agencies, organizations.
  • Participate in development of own Performance Training Plan annually.
Representing Te Kupenga Hauora-Ahuriri
  • Attending hui, forum public meetings, conferences, seminars, planning meetings, agency meetings and any other forum where the presence of
    Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri is required to represent both the organization and the interests of the Ahuriri community.
  • Promote Marae development and use of Marae in the team’s activities wherever possible.
  • Promote tikanga and te reo Maori within the team as much as possible including ensuring attendance by staff at cultural training sessions.

Our successful new team member will have a friendly personality, be a great timekeeper, and have excellent communication skills. The following are also essential requirements:

  • Qualifications: A Health Promotion qualification is highly desirable, however primarily Te Kupenga Hauora - Ahuriri is interested in people with strong local knowledge and a background in working with whanau, hapu and Marae.
  • The service is predominantly mobile; therefore, a full clean driver's license will be required.
  • They must also possess excellent communication skills, have a professional standard of presentation and have a sound level of computer skills.
  • Te Kupenga Hauora – Ahuriri is a health and social service that provides predominantly for those with high needs, therefore the ability to speak Te Reo Maori is desirable and a commitment to Auahi Kore and demonstrating Healthy Lifestyle choices is essential.

  • Commitment to Auahi Kore and Healthy Lifestyle choices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tikanga Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it relates to health, housing and social services provision for Maori
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and reporting writing skills
  • Ability to work in a team. But operate independently when required
  • Commitment to self-development through training or study
  • Applied knowledge of Kotahitanga, whanaungatanga and manaakitanga.
